GARDENSAbbotsbury Swannery is the only place in the world where one can wander through the heart of a colony of over 600 nesting mute swans.
During the nesting and hatching period, typically May and June, it's not uncommon to find yourself standing next to hatching eggs. You might even witness a cygnet being born there and then!
Why not attend one of the hand-feeding sessions? These usually take place at 12:00 and 16:00 each day.
The Swannery was established by Benedictine monks some 600 years ago.
Nowadays, as well as the thrill of seeing so many swans at short range, there's plenty of other activities including a large maze, play area and pedal go-karts. From an educational standpoint, visit the History Room, the Monks' Herb Garden, the Swanherd's hut and the Reed Cutter's display.
