FOSSILSLyme Regis Museum is a modern building on the site of the home of Mary Anning - Lyme's world-famous fossil hunter. With a stunning seafront location on the Jurassic Coast, you will find an interactive geology gallery, learning centre, and expert geologists on hand who are full of passion for all things fossilised!
For schools there are three common offerings, each can be taken in isolation or bundled to make a day of it, including:
Discover Mary Anning
Learn all about Mary and her incredible discoveries. Find out about ichthyosaurs, plesiosaurs and dimorphodons and why Lyme Regis is so fossil rich. A fossil handling session usually takes place and sometimes a walk into town so see Mary's statue.
Fossil Hunt
Led by a PGCE-qualified expert scientist, begin with a fossil talk and handling session covering the geology of the Jurassic Coast followed by a guided beach fossil hunt.
Rockpool Safari
Tide-dependant activity (we can help you reserve a suitable time slot in advance) where an experienced biologist will take the class to explore rock pools to identify animals and plants as well as gather and record specimens.
Lyme Regis Museum is great for all ages, but perhaps a little overwhelming for the very youngest visitors
