WORLD WAR IIThe village of Tyneham was evacuated during World War II, in 1943, and has been deserted ever since.
The area was used for military training, but after the war the villagers were not allowed to return. The village remains part of the Armoured Fighting Vehicles Gunnery School, part of the British Army.
Access can only be arranged on certain days for operational and safety reasons, being part of the Ministry of Defence Lulworth Ranges.
Many of the original buildings remain at Tyneham - including houses, a church and a school - the latter now housing exhibitions about the village and its people.
Tyneham Village is great for all ages, but perhaps a little overwhelming for the very youngest visitors
