CRIME & PUNISHMENTVICTORIANSWORLD WAR IIBringing over 200 years of justice and injustice to life, Shire Hall was Dorset's main courthouse from 1797 until after World War II and in that time saw the trials of the Tolpuddle Martyrs and American GIs.
The museum shares stories of everyday people's interactions with the justice system in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, demonstrating how the law affects us all and how we can affect the law. With interactive galleries, claustrophobic holding cells and preserved courtroom, the museum offers something for all.
Shire Hall Museum is great for all ages, but perhaps a little overwhelming for the very youngest visitors
