Durlston forms part of a National Nature Reserve and is also designated as Heritage Coast, a Special Area of Conservation, Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and its offshore waters are part of the Marine Research Area.

Consisting of 320 acres of countryside containing dramatic sea cliffs, coastal limestone downloads, hay meadows, hedgerows and woodland. At its heart sits a wonderfully restored and fully accessible victorian castle with a historical timeline between the car park and the castle building and the unique Great Globe is a must-see.
